Our Recent News

The weekly meeting for this coming Wednesday, the 23rd, at the Museum is moved to the Moland House property. We are conducting an archaeology dig there (check out the schedule) that is scheduled to run from 2 pm to 8 pm.

On April 4th, the Society participated in the first occasion of First Friday in Hatboro.  Frank Sorace and Jack Regenhard manned the Amy B. Yerkes Museum in the Baptist Church, while Scott Albright stood by the promotion table.  Frank and Jack answered the many questions of the visitors and Scott gave out literature while taking donations for items such as the Hatboro book.  Scott Randolph of Arrival Video presented a trailer of the Hatboro Video that he is producing.  The presentation was in the Church Annex.  Many Society members, including our student interns, were present to support the event.  Some members were in colonial costume.   Click on the picture below to see three of those who participated, in costume.  In addition to being on site at the church, many members, some also in costume, visited the other busy activities along York Road.  This first occasion, of the First Friday in Hatboro, appeared to be a success.  The Society has now participated in the event in May and June, to be covered here later.

On Saturday, April 12, a historical marker was dedicated at the Speaker's House to commemorate Frederick Muhlenberg, the most well known resident of 151 West Main Street in Trappe, Pennsylvania.  Members of The Millbrook Society attended the dedication ceremony.  Joseph H. Melrose, President, Board of Trustees, the Speaker's House was the master of the ceremony.  Other participants included: Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 7155; Veterans Association of Military Musicians; Perkiomen Valley High School Chorus; Pastor Herbert H. Michel, of Augustus Lutheran Church; Joseph Hoeffel, Montgomery County Commissioner; Joan Hauger, Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, Historical Site Administrator; and Lisa Minardi, Vice President, The Speaker's House.  Youngsters performed a recitation of the Bill of Rights.  The Historical Marker was then unveiled.  A memorial address for John Bubeck was given by Allison Weiss, Executive Director of The Speaker's House.  Plenary comments were given by Jim Gerlach of the Pennsylvania 6th District.  The ceremony was then closed and guided tours of the house were conducted.  Much has been done to date the structure, since the time that the Society members worked there.

Field Trips

There is a field trip planned for later this summer, to visit Fort Mifflin.  The Fort is located near the Philadelphia International Airport.  The cost is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors, and $3 for veterans and children 6 to 12 years of age.  This field trip will replace the previously scheduled one that was cancelled due to the excessive heat on July 18th.

Scheduled Activities

Society members have been invited to participate in the First Friday in Hatboro.  The next event is scheduled for August 2nd from 6 pm to 9 pm.  Volunteers are needed to staff the Museum for the evening.  Let us know, if you can help.

Open House at Moland - The Moland House is scheduled to be open for tours on the second Sunday of each month.  The Millbrook Society is planning to support the event on the 13th of July with a demonstration of archaeology screening of soil.  We are also scheduled to do screening on the other 2008 open house days through to November.

Beginning the week of May 4th, The Speaker's House had a small archaeology exhibit at the Schwenkfelder Library Museum.  The exhibit will run throughout the summer of 2008.  the library museum is located off of 2nd Street, and Log Alley, in East Greenville, Montgomery County.

The Warwick Township Historical Society has scheduled the "Annual Re-enactment at the Camp at the Neshamini" again this year on Saturday the 16th of August, from 10 am to 4 pm.  There will be many colonial re-enactors with some demonstrating colonial arts and trades.  Members of The Millbrook Society will be participating in the event.  We will provide details of the activities as they are developed.  Watch this site for more to come.

Weekly adult meetings are held Wednesday nights from 7:30 - 9:30 PM. Please come and join us.
