The Millbrook Society operates and manages the Amy B. Yerkes Museum located in the Hatboro Baptist Church, 32 N. York Road, Hatboro, PA. The museum is named in honor of Miss Amy B. Yerkes, a local educator who served many years as a dedicated teacher and principal in the Loller Academy. The museum has served as a repository for her seminal collection. The museum contains objects of local interest and significance dealing with the progress of the area since its colonial settlement. The museum and archives are under the leadership of Millbrook Society Director, Mary Porter and are open to the public Wednesday evenings from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The general collection represents the development of the area through domestic, commercial, educational, military, civic, and governmental artifacts. Our library augments the collections and provides background material for our other departments as well as information specific to our mission. New books covering the history of the nation and other subjects of interest are added to the collection as they become available. Also in the collection are items dealing with national and world events, including artifacts recovered from maritime archaeology sites. The museum contains archival pictorial materials in the thousands that not only complement our other holdings, but also constitute a significant collection in itself. This material is in the form of slides, films, photos, post cards and artwork. The resources include those donated by our members as well as the general public. Together, they make up the tangible memories of the people of eastern Montgomery and Bucks Counties, gathered since 1979. Many of these collections date from the colonial era. We appreciate and highly regard our donated materials, which receive care, housing, and are put on display. It is our wish that their enjoyment may be widely shared. |
